1993 Grand Prix SE ~ allignment???

Hi There ...

I recently purchased a 1993 Grand Prix SE and I have a question. While driving it home I found that while making right turns at any speed above 30 MPH the rear of the car sways. I took it back and had them look at it, and they told me that the tow adjusters were slightly bent, and that with an allignment the car would be ok. I'm no mechanic, but whenever the allignment has been off in my car it usually just pulls to one side or the other!?! Is it possible that this could be the problem, or something else??
Any input is appreciated!! Thanks for the help!!

have the front end checked by a good mech. the front ends should never have to be alligned unless the car was in an accident i have a 95 with 144.000 miles on it and never alligned it

That's not necessarily true. If the car is driven over very rough roads with lots of potholes it can be knocked out of alignment. Trust me, I live in the sticks in Alabama, we have lots of rough roads, all of my cars have had to been aligned at one point or another.

When they allign it, the dealer will replace all the bent parts.

if it is only right hand turns i'd check tire pressure, or for loose or worn parts (lateral arm bushings, bearing, sway bar links) check struts to see if worn out , leaking or blown out (is rear of car bouncy) but it is always a good idea to have the alignment done to reduce wear on tires and suspention parts, if you just bought the car some shops have a lifetime alignment deal its about twice as much but you can get the car aligned for free as long as you own it

Re: 1993 Grand Prix SE ~ allignment???

Thanks so much for the replys .... I took the car to another mechanic, and he tells me that lateral arms are bent and need to be replaced!! He says at some point the car must have run something over!! He says he can fix the car and allign it for $250.00 ~ so off it goes to the garage already!! My 17 year old son actually bought the car, he loves the ride of my 97 GT but is finding out that the 93 isn't near the same!!
GTPgirl ... your right ... I live in the country in PA, and some of these roads are not GP friendly!! I've had my 97 alligned twice!!
Thanks again for the info everyone ... and have a great day!!

Re: 1993 Grand Prix SE ~ allignment???

Our main roads aren't too bad, but the little county roads like the one I live on, some of them are pretty bad. We don't have potholes, we have lagoons in the road. I'm telling you, it's pretty bad. The county I live in isn't as bad as the county south of us, though.

I had the same problem with my '94 GTP on wide turns at over 20MPH. The whole rear end would sort of shimmy. I had 4 new tires put on, same problem. I ended up having to replace the rear struts. End of problem.
