00 Civic Dx Hatchback?

Looking at purchasing a 00 Civic Dx Hatchback, was wondering how it is upgrading performance wise. I make around 2k a month, maybe more if i get good commissions. So anyone that has/had one mind giving an honest opinion of hte car and its performance upgradibility?

I'm really into smalll compact cars and hatchbacks so if the Dx hatchbacks aren't that great, some other suggestions would be MORE then welcom.

DX hatchback is great, just pull that D-series motor out for a B-series and you'll have something that can scoot right along.

Any idea how much that would cost? I know engines arent THAT expensive, but I hear labor is where the real cash is.

depending on the engine, the labor really shouldn't cost more than $1000 and that's on the high end IMO

Re: 00 Civic Dx Hatchback?

Sweet thanks, I was looking at Del Sols earlier, but the one I wanted sold, and there was only 1 other one within 300 miles of me so. But thanks again for the advice, gotta BUY the car first, then I'll look into the engine swap.

Re: 00 Civic Dx Hatchback?

The DX hatchback is a really solid basis for building a nice looking, small, and fast car. The civic 6th generation has good looks and the hatch back shares the front end with the coupe which is very nice. If you put some lips, an Si or Type R lip all around in a 00 hatchback and some 16-17 inch rims lowering it, it looks very very nice.

As far as performance, the engine that the DX comes with isnt all that fast. Fast enough to scoot you around town but not to claim that "You are fast". You can dump another 1.6 liter engine with a higher revrange and more horsepower.

A b16a2, the engine found in the civic Si coupe 99-00 produces 160 hp and 111lbs of torque past 7000 rpms and redlines at 8000. If you swap that into the hatch expect high 6s 0-60 mph time and low 15s in the quarter mile, assuming good conditions (Driver and Track)

That is pretty good if you ask me. The hatchbacks are really light cars 2200-2350 lbs, so it doesent take all that much to move them fast. There are also other engines that you can swap into the car. Look at the 92+ civic section under the sticky (Complete civic engine/swap guide)

Now, if you really want to be fast you can swap an integra type R engine. 1.8 liter producing 195 horsepower at 8200 rpms. Youll be very fast with that engine on a 2200 lbs car.

b16a2 goes for around 2200-3000$ (estimate)
b18c5 goes for around 3500-4500$ (estimate)

Hope this helps.
