Quick tip: cast aluminum
On cars there are many, many metallic surfaces we are charged as modellers to replicate on plastic with paint. One of these surfaces is a cast aluminum, common on intake and air routing parts like intake pipes, manifolds, intercoolers and the like. To very simply and convincingly make a cast aluminum surface, spray the metal part with Testors Metallic Silver, then shoot it with their Model Master Lusterless (Flat) lacquer overcoat (also: Dullcote). This makes a very convincing color and texture, and takes very little time and effort.

http://images6.fotki.com/v74/photos/...jpg?1084158764 The engine block and tranny are painted with Alclad Dull Aluminum. Looks pretty good IMHO and no dullcote required.
How do you post pics here??? Marc aka Okiemodelbuilder |
