Starting problems and Anti-Lock Brake light

Hi all,
My 1998 Intrigue has an almost new battery and only
clicks when I try to start it. I can jump it off using my
truck. Puzzling. Also when I do get it to start, the Anti-
Lock Brake light and the Brake light come on and stay on.
The brakes seem to be working fine but the owners manual
advise parking the vehicle when this light comes on. Any
help from anyone is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
joscopar

Re: Starting problems and Anti-Lock Brake light

I'm willing to bet that you have a bad alternator. When the ECM detects a voltage drop, the first thing it shuts off is the ABS because it takes alot of power to operate. This turns on the orange "ABS" light in the dash to tell you that your ABS is malfunctioning or not working at all. Your brakes will work just like regular brakes and WILL lock up in an emergency stop as long as this light is on. Your car is probably running straight off the battery which is why it can't start the car after it is shut off. You should get this fixed ASAP to avoid damage to the ECM from get frequent jump starts
