Which of these 4....?
I'm just wondering what I can realistically afford with 5-7 thousand dollars. I am looking for a car to use as an every day driver, but I want it to have the power, because I might race it once in a while. Basically I'm just wondering what kind of condition each would be in if I buy it for 5-7 thousand dollars (or if it's even possible to buy one of these for
5-7k). Pontiac Firebird 1967-1973 Plymouth Barracuda 1970-1974 Dodge Challenger 1970-1971 Ford Mustang Fastback 1965-1970 Oh yea and which of those 4 cars would be the cheapest to buy parts for. Thanks Last edited by Baker12; 05-21-2004 at 07:35 PM. |

for the mustang fastback 65-68 your looken at $12,000+ but a good place to look is ebay for restored or project cars.

for the most part, GM cars have the most parts availiable through tons of companies (edelbrock, moroso, and summitracing for example)

listen, go to your local book store and look for classic muscle car books that give prices and conditions of the muscle car that you are looking for. my dad has about 5 different books and i have used them to look for different cars that i am interested such as the '67 camaro, that is how i found out i couldnt afford one in decent condition. that is my best advice to you.

^^ Ok ill go look this weekend. Also, I've got my eye on 2 more cars. Plymouth Road Runner 1969-1973 and Pontiac GTO 1968-1972.

You'll get more for your money with the Pontiacs. Either the F-body or A-body are superior chassis to the Ford or Dodge. The Pontiac V8 offers much better power-to-street-speed. Not only that, what could be cooler than driving a real GTO?

go with poncho power. like MrPbody said they are far better cars than the mopars you are lookin at. Now Firebirds are great cars especially the years you are lookin at. there plenty of options for the model like the baseline firebird, the esprit, the formula and the top of the line T/A. for those years they came with the 250 I6, 326 V8, 350 V8, 400 V8, 455 V8 s as you can see you have plenty of engine choices not including whatever you want to dump in.

Old Birds are OK, but you can probably find a nicer condition Camaro for the money -- and building it would be cheaper. Oh yeah, plus you would end up with a faster, lighter car!!

All these posts are really good advice and are spot on. I would just suggest do the research and look for the best condition car you can afford. Its cheaper, generally, to spend a bit more and buy a better condition car than to buy cheaper junk and fix it.

The Price Your Gonna Pay Is Pure Luck. For Restorated Cars You'll Pay Thru Your Ass. As Far As A Car That Needs A Little Tlc Could Cost 100's Or 1000's. The Most Important Thing Is Don't Buy A Car Because It Looks Good To The Naked Eye! Thats How U Get In Trouble. I Bought A 68 Tempest Custom(same As The 69 Gto) From A Friend. 2 Studs On The Rear Tire Snaped & The Tire Lightly Crunched The Qtr Panel.he Could't Afford To Fix It. He Sold It To Me For 300.00. Sure, It Looks Great.but When I Looked It Over,what A Piece Of Crap.when U Purchase A Old Car Like That U Have To Realize That 95% Of The Time It's A Project,not A Car. Muscle Cars Are Cars You Buy If U Have Time,money & Another Car To Drive In The Meantime!
