Unhappy mini me problems! help me out pls.

this is what i have:

1988 civic hatch dx (d15b2)

already put in the car:
mpfi swap
d16z6 head
d16a6 ecu (pm6)
d16a6 distributor
zc (sohc)/d16a6 block
zc tranny
zc intermediate shaft
msd rpm switch (control vtec engagement)

the problem:

1) engine cranks but wont start.
2) the ecu blinks really fast that i was not able to count the blinks. the blinkging almost steady.
3) i dunno if the distributor is broken but the sparks only comes in once in a while
4) there is a coolant leak at the crank pulley side of the engine. maybe the water pump?

everything is hooked up and torqued right. hopefully you guys can help me out. i have spent 4 days on this swap. until now it wont even start up. please help me out. thank you in advance.

chris

Re: mini me problems! help me out pls.

are you sure the car is timed right?
to see if it is timed right, put the car in fifth gear, roll it forward till the lower timing belt cover and crank pulley timing mark line up (the one that is set alone by itselft away from the 3 other marks). That mark is TDC. Now, see if ur cam gear is aligned with it's mark on the upper timing belt cover. If not, loosen the tensioner pulley, slide off the belt, turn the cam gear till its aligned and slip the belt back on, then tighten the tensioner pulley.

Or, you may have put ur distributor on 180 degrees off timing. Again set ur car to TDC (and assuming you timing is right) remove the dizzy cap, the rotor should be pointing to the number one spark plug wire (bottom left corner)

make sure you have put the spark plugs back in the right order. the firing order is 1, 3, 4, 2
when looking at ur valve cover the spark plugs are order like this: 4, 3, 2, 1
so, looking at ur dizzy cap, ull notice two "sides" to ur disributor cap. One side has rounded corners and the other side has square corners. put the #3 spark plug on the top left side of the squared side of the cap, then going in a clock wise direction plug in the other wires; #4 next (top right of squared side) then #2 (bottom right of rounded side) and then #1 (bottom left of rounded side)

I'm pretty sure one of those or all of those is ur problems...check up on it.

The coolant leaking scares me.....did you torque ur head down to 57 ft./lbs of torque? (it has to be slighty tighter than stock because of the increase in compression. You could very well possibly be leaking coolant/oil into ur cylinders and leaking from the head as well. Did you use a 3 layer metal head gasket?

You have to check the codes in the ecu...that's the only way someone may be able to help you.

Also, i didn't think the pm6 dizzy bolted to the z6 dizzy housing on the head. How did you get it to fit? you only bolted up two of the holes im assuming? You should of kept the z6 dizzy and just swapped the plugs.

Re: mini me problems! help me out pls.

The Z6 Dizzy is OBD1 correct? So he would have to change ECU's and fuel injectors. Did you double check all of your wiring and is the engine grounded correctly? Try getting a new dizzy. As for the coolant leak, is it coming out of the block or from the radiator?

Re: mini me problems! help me out pls.

after some thought and my friend trying to break the spindle nut with a screw driver and breaker bar getting a nice gash in his forehead we decided to use a valve puller device thingy from the local parts store and with a little bit of patience, came right off. Day 1: passenger side upper ball joint replacement = 4 hours and 4 stitches in friend's forehead Day 2: driver side upper ball joint replacement = 1 hour, no stitches with friend's brother... patience and strength... weird combo but it did the trick... good luck!
