My 96 Cutlass has 2 condenser cooling fans. When I turn on the A/C the driver side fan will come on when the high side pressure gets to 200 psi. Shouldn't the passenger side fan come on when the A/C is turned on and stay on? Any help is appreciated........

Re: 96 Cutlass A/C condenser fan
Check this out. http://www.thirdgen.org/tech/cool8dual.pdf
Newer vehicles have not changed or changed a little bit on how the cooling fans operates. |

I have a 1995 Olds Cutlass Supreme with the 3.1 in it. On my car the driver side fan comes on when the car gets hot, to me it lets it get too hot before it turns on, but i have found other Cutlass's that do the same. But when i turn on the A/C the drivers side fan comes on and stays on, the passenger side fan only comes on if the car gets really hot with the A/C on. This never really happens because with one fan on constantly it never gets that hot. When driving on the highway the car temp gauge stays in the middle (normal) however, in stop and go traffice it goes all the way up to the line before the red but never goes further. Once i start to pick up speed the needle goes back down.

henry5 is correct. Addition info: When the a/c is not on, the fans come on at 230F. With the thermostat openning at approx. 195F, you rarely have the fans come on.
Henry5, if your temp. jumps a lot, check your coolant overflow tank for engine oil, low coolant or low oil. When your lower intake gasket starts to go bad you get oil in the coolant and the system run hotter. Just replaced my gaskets for this. I caught it early enought to avoid a lot of internal engine damage caused when the gasket gets bad enough to let coolant into the oil. |

Yea I am not sure why the car runs hot like it does. I have never seen a car where the temp guage goes as high as in this car. However, one my my good friends bought a car just like mine but a 97 and he said it does the same thing. So i dont know if this is a normal thing or not. The car never overheats, and I have driven in NYC traffice on a 100 degree day and the temp gauge was high but never over heated. I have replaced the thermostat and temp sending unit, flushed cooling system with no change. I have driven the car now for about 100,000 miles with no adverse affects. So i just deal with it.
