1998 Civic Coupe EX Alarm
My right channel started dropping when I played through the CD changer about a year after purchase (new). A jiggle of the low-level cable on the back of the head unit would generally restore the channel. About a year ago I lost the right channel completely, and Myer-Emco put in a compatible Alpine changer and new "adapter" cable and all was well again for a month. This is when the alarm went postal.
My roommate advised me on his return to the house one early morning at about 1 AM that my dome light was flickering. I investigated and noticed my remote didn't work. I used the key to enter, setting of the alarm, but was able to kill the noise. Still, I made no new friends in the neighborhood that day.
The Honda dealer looked at it and said it was a short, which they "fixed." Two weeks later the dome light was at it again. I entered the car again using the key but this time was unable to stop the alarm. In desperation I pulled all 3 fuses labeled Security, and that did the trick. I determined that 2 of the 3 were OK to be plugged in and have left the fuse panel in that state ever since.
The garage was unable to figure this out, and worse, they have another 98 Civic EX Couple w/the same problem. They haven't figured that one out either, even though they've replaced the alarm, head unit, and changer.
Anyone? Bueller?
