Re: power for free
drilling holes in air filter = dirt in motor = bad idea.
Drilling holes in your air box may give you like an extra hp, but dont expect much. Not really any such thing as free power, unless you steel someone elses car. |

I've heard the coolant bypass trick on the throttle body can get you some HP. My buddy did it, and ran .1 faster in the 1/4mile.

open header = free
less air in front tires = free (better launches if your talking about dragging) Make your car lighter!!= Free and definitly quickens your car up less weight means quicker acceleration.

basically, you have small coolant lines coming from your head and block that go to the throttle body, IAC valve, and a few other places near the intake manifold. the simpliest way to bypass them all is to find the point where the coolant comes out of the head or block and where it goes back in, and run a coolant line from one to the other, effectively bypassing all the other lines. this will lower the temperature of your air intake, and everyone knows that cooler air is denser, so you get more air in to burn with your gas. remember that even though its a free mod, it doesnt do much, but is more like something to do while you do other things to the engine. it does help a little, and you have fewer small coolant lines to bust.

Re: power for free
I cut the bottom off my stock airbox to let more air in. It was my absolute first mod, I think I did it like the day after I got the car.
(thank me later)

Re: power for free
The only way to see any signifigant gains in power for free is to put your car on a diet. A weight reduction will bring your power to weight ratio closer. I personally am not a fan of gutting cars to make them faster, but if it works it works
