Undercover cop, or just someone playing around?

So I'm on the parkway today, behind this impala, he's going moderately fast, switching lanes in order to go faster, but I still passed him. I was in a hurry to get to school for 7th period after being "sick". Then I get back in front of him, all this was going at least 70, or somewhere around 70, I'm sure I was speading at least a bit. Then I hear sirens and cops light coming out of the car's grill. What's going thru my mind is whether this is someone playing a game on me or whether this is for real an undercover cop.

So after he flashes his sirens at me for about a half second, I slow down right away just a little i guess, and continue driving.. then as I started thinking it was someone playing a game on me, I speed up a little. I'm in the middle lane, and he then switches lanes to the left, and I slow down. As he passes I *think* I saw his cop uniform, but I'm really not sure, it was so fast and a bunch of things were going thru my mind. He does some motion with his arm really fast as he passes by, I thiought he was telling me to pull over, so I do. About 50 meters ahead there is a light, and I see him continue driving and turn left. So I just sit there on the shoulder for a good 2-3 minutes, then leave (just realizing I left my wallet at home ). What he might have been doing is tellign me to follow him? Would a cop ever do that? He did have at least enoguh room to pull over? Shouldn't he have gotten in front of me, or at least pulled over from behind me and I would follow?

So now, was it a real cop or not? I'm almost positive he didn't have the spotlights on top of his mirrors, etc. If it was a cop, h probably got my plate #, and would they send a ticket in the mail in this case?

My first cop related expeience on the road..

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dan

Its possible he got another call while attempting to pull you over or he may have just wanted to pass you to go to a call. It is S.O.P for the officer to have his car BEHIND your vehicle just in case you decide to run, if by some chance they do get in front of you, you can bet there is another unit behind you, most likely coming up fast! I dont think you will get a ticket if the officer didnt pull you over and even if you do you have plenty of ground to fight it

Re: Undercover cop, or just someone playing around?

It did seem odd that he was going fairly fast, for what I would find out later to be a cop.. So hopefully that is the case, he was just heading to a call, and I had to switch lanes right infront of him, heh.

Re: Undercover cop, or just someone playing around?

We have quite a few unmarked police cars here in Arizona. Mostly white camaros with really dark windows. They do not have government plates. They have hidden lights behind the grill or on the back of a sun visor. They cruise around at night trying to race (i was almost a victim once).

In your case i agree with the others with the cop was headed to a more important call.

Re: Undercover cop, or just someone playing around?

I would lean more towards it being an undercover cop. I have heard of people faking it, but I think they would go a bit further in the joke, being that it is a federal offence to impersonate an officer (i think). I have seen them in tons of different cars, white, blue, black, grey, sedans, SUVs, camaros, etc. So you probably got really lucky. A friend of mine was driving home pacing with a beige sedan in front of him going about 90mph. Two miles up hte road a cop rolls in behind him and pulls him over, turns out the car doing 90 was a unit who paced him he got nailed with 2 tickets. So count yourself lucky.

If you are uncertain if the Constable/Officer/Deputy is legitimate, call 911 and explain the situation. They will be able to tell if it is a legit situation. If it is not, they will certainly send someone to get the fucker.

Re: Undercover cop, or just someone playing around?

i was on a bad road and a bunch of idiot 16 year olds turn on a cop light and i pull over.
when they drove past i saw it was a bunch of kids laughing so i chased them down the highway.
when they pulled into a gas station. i was going to follow them in there but then i noticed a real cop doing speed traps across the street. i went over to him explained the situation and followed him over to the gas station to id the kids and he pulled them out of the car cuffed them.
it was hilarious to see the driver balling in front of his friends.
good times.

Re: Undercover cop, or just someone playing around?

I came across some idiot (in a cube van!!) with a police siren, clearing downtown traffic. He cut through busy traffic before I got his plate # though.
