"94 Escort front hub

Anybody have the trick to seperating the front hub from the steering knuckle beyond removing the axle nut? I need to replace the bearings. TIA. Rick

Re: "94 Escort front hub

Removal
1. Remove the hubcap from the wheel.
2. Use a hammer and a chisel or punch to raise the staked part of the driveaxle retaining nut out of the groove.
3. Remove the retaining nut from the driveaxle.
4. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands.
5. Tap the end of the driveaxle with a hammer and a punch to free it from the hub. Don't try to drive it all the way out at this time.
6. Remove the pinch bolt and detach the balljoint stud from the steering knuckle.
7. Turn the steering wheel all the way toward the side from which you're removing the driveaxle. (to the left if you're removing the driver's side, to the right if you're removing the passenger's side.)
8. Pull the hub and knuckle out while you push the driveaxle out of the hub.
9. Swivel the end of the driveaxle forward and support it with a piece of wire so the inner CV joint isn't damaged.
10. Installation is reverse of removal.

If I can be of any more help, let me know. Best of luck to you.

yotatechie04,
Does the hub have to be pressed off the steering knuckle after its off the car or what holds them together? Thanks for the help.

Re: "94 Escort front hub

You'll have to unbolt the control arm and pry them apart with a prybar or something. The steering knuckle will be free enough to pull the axle out from the back, and then out of the differential. Sorry I was so indirect about that in my previous post.
