A/C Compressor/Switch??? HELP~

Hey ppl,
Heres the story... I bought my celica with the AC compressor clutch STRAIGHT-WIRED to a toggle inside my car.

The stock A/C switch doesnt stay on. You can hold it down, and the light will come on, but does not engage the friggin' compressor.

Heres the problem with the setup... When i engage the compressor with the toggle switch, it cuts down my idle rpm from 1000 to 500!
Also, when i rev it up, when the rpms come back down, it drops to 200 or 300 and somtimes cuts off the engine.

The compressor kinda makes a humming noise that increases and the engine is reved up.

Now, is this a switch problem. The straight-wire is drawing too much power? It is hooked up to a 15amp fuse but no relay..

Or, is it a compressor problem.. That is ''blocked'' or somthing, that causes it not to turn as efficiently?

Please help me drive with my AC without a major horspower cut.

Rewire it back the way it is supposed to be wired and find the problem. Probably a bad relay.

checked the relay. Its a bad switch for sure but it draws a lotta dam power. Somone told me it could be a "compressor lockup". And i might have to replace it? What are the oddS? i mean it still cools and all but too much power to sacrifice for A/c. Even in 90deg. weather. (GA)

Normally, the ECM makes the mixture richer to compenate partially for the power drain. You are bypassing this compensation. That is why you see the power drain as much as you do. IF your compressor was locked up, it would not turn.

The switch probably doesn't work because someone rewired the compressor clutch to bypass the switch and use this manual switch. Reconnect the original switch and figure out why it was disconnected in the first place. Probably the relay. How did you check the relay if there is no current running through the normal circuit?

It is not going to operate correctly until you wire it back the way Toyota wants it to be wired.

Well, the switch is messed up, the reason i know this is becuase the green light wont stay on somtimes, somtimes it will, but will go out.
The clutch switch line has been "tapped'' into. Im thinking that if i find a AC switch panel from a salvage yard, it might work. I tried to get it out the other day but the HOT-COLD cable was hard to get out so i put it all back together until i actually find the switch panel to replace it with. By the way, the compressor kinda makes a humming or buzzing sound. Not that bad, but noticable. Kinda like a supercharger. ?

You're probably running more current through it than normal.

im going to search thru the local salvage yards for a new switch panel.
Any recomendations on how to take off that HOT~COLD control line/wire?
I couldnt get that out. How does it come out?

hey, the guy at the ac shop said i might have a lotta problems. Is he just trying to make me pay a lot or what??

He's right, you might have alot of problems. Then again, you might not. Find a mechanic who others have recommended and see what he says.

If you can switch the compressor on and off through a bypass switch, it's not a bad compressor clutch. I still think it's either the a/c switch or the relay. If it's not, prove it to yourself.

hey, thanks for your help. Im currently looking for a switch panel. But could you tell me how the damn COLD/HOT controll cable is removed. I was scared i'd break it off so i gave up untill i found the part first..

With all the issues you have, I would buy a Toyota repair manual and get the details on these procedures.
