95 caprice tranny

ok heres the deal i have a 95 z28 camaro with a 4l60e and i bought a tranny off someone and they told me that it was a 4l60e out of a 95 caprice cop car. well i dropped the car and tranny off at my buddys uncles gargage that does trannys and he told me that the tranny i bought work's off a detent cable but my car doesnt have one. so the question is if the tranny is a 4l60e like mine then it shouldnt need a detent cable right? it should be shifted electronically like my z28 right? or do you all think that its possible that this 95 caprice had a 700r4 in it? also is there anything i could look for on the tranny i bought to tell which it is? thanks for the info in advance.

Brian

I did a swap a few years ago, but got the whole car and traded in EVERYTHING, including fuse boxes (85 Jag, fuse boxes were a mess.) so no problem with matching things up. I can't tell you if the caprice cop cars had only 4l60e's, but I can tell you there is no cable associated with it (except shifter.) If it is a 4l60e, there will be a large 20-pin (about) electric female plug on the passenger side of the trans. Who knew you could run so much electricity through a tranny?

Oh, for the Caprice lovers out there that think I chopped up a Caprice for the sake of an 85 foreign rust-bucket P.O.S., they had rolled it in pursuit after having the entire driveline remanufactured 2k miles prior. Salvaged: a headlight and a grill (aside from the driveline.)
