Re: how to install hood pins

you may be able to find a spot on the radiator support to drill into bolt the pins down, If not you will have to weld a plate onto the radiator support/inner fender... somewhere. Make sure there even. Measure from all sorts of things and cross measure from side to side. Once you get them welded in and drilled and the pins are loosly bolted in take some grease and put on the top of the pin and close the hood till it touches the pins, the grease mark will show you where to drill. Mark it with a punch and drill your 1/2" hole in the hood, make sure every thing lines up then put your scuff plates on. Lineing up the pin so the hole is right above the surface of the hood is kinda tricky so play around with it. Put the clip though the pin to hold it at a certain angle with tightening because it will spin. When you get every thing the way you want it back off the top bolt and put thread lock on and let it set up then back off the bottom bolt and put thread lock on. Without the threadlock they will usually allways get loose and require readjusting and rightening again.

Re: how to install hood pins

I made plates for my pins to mount on.. I didn't want to drill into the headlight frame for fear of wrecking my headlight, so I made a plate that two of the bolts on the headlight frame and one on the fender all hold it on. That way I didn't have to drill into my car (just put the pins where ever I wanted to on the plate), and later if I don't want the CF hood and pins I can just take the plates off and there will be no evidence of pins.

As you can see in the pic in my sig, the pins are quite a way back from the headlights..

actually i was looking at that the other day and thought it looked far back, but imo it looks good! hmm, maybe another project will be in the works before i get the car painted hehe. only have till the end of june 2 decide lol, also, would u recommend taking the latch off the hood? or leave it on? cuz i think i would leave it on cuz i dont want the pins to break and the hood to come flying off on me

Re: how to install hood pins

If your latch works fine, and you don't have a lightweight hood, pins are wastefull. Hood pins are fugly. If I could get away with not having them I would, but securing my Fin expenisve hood is top priority.

Re: how to install hood pins

after you decide where to mount them on the chassis, just dab grease on the top of them and close the hood lightly to mark where to dril the holes.

Re: how to install hood pins

I think they're hideous. This year I'm going to paint the big round disks black so they blend in with the hood.

Re: how to install hood pins

they make locking hood pins, install basicly the same way as non locking ones. They have a cylinder style lock on the top insted of a pin that goes though the hood and a pin that keeps it shut.
