Help w/ a S.E Michigan 1989 Ford escort

hello everybody.
I'm new here so dont laugh when I ask this question. maybe someone will and maybe someone wont. but I figured its worth a shot.
i am hoping to find someone near me (saint clair shores, mi) that would be willing to help me work on a 1989 ford escort. I'm not looking to hire a mechanic, and I cant pay you, but maybe you might make a new friend out of it, and we can share a few busted knuckles over some cold beers or pops, whatever it is that you drink.
I'm picking up this vehicle today, and to be honest with you, I dont know exactly what all needs to be done with it. the lady told me that the entire motor isnt in the vehicle and that she thinks it needs the lifters and the camshaft installed. (she has the parts). I am somewhat mechanically inclined and have done some minor automotive repairs in my time, but I dont have any experience in that field.
So, if theres anyone out there who lives in S.E Michigan that would be willing to just help out on occassion, i would be very grateful!
