Inoperative power window

1998 Grand Prix GT front passenger power window is inoperative from either side. All other windows work. I don't know where to start, prehaps a wiring diagram showing wire colors to trace, or is it as simple as a switch. Please advise, thank you!

i had my window switchs go out in my 97 gtp. your best bet is to try to go and find the switchs in a junk yard. they are a lot cheaper there then from a parts store. i paided $10 for mine compared to $80+ a pop from GM. i'd say try replacing the passengers side first and if that doesn't work, start checking wires.

I woundn't waste my money on a pass switch or the driver for that matter, if it doesn't work on either side, chances are a bad motor or wiring.

Possibly bad window motor regulator...I remember a post a while back saying that those were bad to go out on the GP's, cause when I had my '97 I think my back ones were going out.

Power window switch feeds the passenger side. If your driver switch is screwed up, it may be affecting your pass side while still operating the drivers side. Did it just not work one day or was the window going up and down slowly for a while before that? If it gradually went out, I would say it may be the motor or regulator. The regulator is a cable drive and can build up oxidation making it seize up. I sprayed white lithium grease on mine when I saw the window slowing and it worked fine. It could also be the wiring but not as likely. I will get the wiring diagrams so you can check it out. Hope you have a multimeter so you can start troubleshooting! Is yours a 2dr or 4dr?

If the window was working fine and all of the sudden stopped working I would go for the switches. COuld be possible that the passenger side fail caused by the driver side switch. The driver side switch could fail do to the passenger side.
If the windows was working slow, slower before it died then lubeing the mechanism should do it

I would believe the most common thing to go out would be the window regulator motor. Just to make sure, I would take off the door panel on the pass side, disconnect the connector on the motor and check for power and ground with a multimeter or a test light. if you have both at the connector, you know that the circuit is good and that the motor is most likely the problem. Hey guys, I hope Im not digging up a dead thread here, but I am having almost the same type of problem. My 1996 GP SE has no window that works. When we got the car I noticed that the window wouldnt roll down, so naturally I took the switch apart thinking it was that. Well I did find some corroded contacts, but I could never get it back together again. So I've been scouring the internet looking for an accurate wiring diagram so I could "jumper" over the wires to at least the other doors to make sure those are ok. I've been working off a '97 GTP diagram I found, but I sincerely believe the wires are not the same colors. I'm only finding one wire (Brown) thats feeding 12v, 1 ground (Black), but according to tis diagram the LF Up is Dk. Blue, and LF Down is Brown...well there's two of each! Can someone please shed some light for me on this? An accurate diagram for a '96 would be fantastic! Or even better would be a pinout of the switch itself..but thats asking for too much.

While this topic is open, I have another question.

My idea is to go to a junk-yard and pick up three ( or however many I need for all the window switches) auto down switches and replace all the normal ones, so that even the back windows are auto.

What do you think, would it work?

My drivers side motor went out a while ago in my 98 gtp. It was going up and down really slow. I had a new motor put in but the window still goes up and down quite a bit slower than it does on the passenger side. Weird.
