Question Successful driver seat repair?

1989 Cherokee driver seat that, like many others I have seen, has broken internally on the bottom door side.

Has anyone successfully spot welded (or other way repaired) the seat back to semi-comfortable status?

One too many bumps over the years or else I have gained too much wait for the poor seat!

Thanks all...
Ron

Depends on the type of seat, but yes they have been successfully welded. problem is some of the stupid seats suck to begin with, let alone after 350k miles...

If you weld it (I used a small mig) take the seat out of the truck, by removing the 4 floor bolts. Untrim everything you can get to that looks like it's even CLOSE by (within a foot or so). Otherwise, you'll risk starting it on fire when you weld. Weld just a little bit at a time, and allow to cool between. Otherwise, you can melt some of the plastic inside the track, and you'll get (more) excessive chuck.

My seats have the stupid "hockey stick" design, where the cushion and back are essentially shaped into a permanent hockey-stick angle, with NO RECLINE. Talk about uncomfortable!

hth, Tom

Re: Successful driver seat repair?

I bought my 89 with the seat broken...found one at the salvage for $20 and just removed upholstery and traded out. pretty quick and easy.
