help with oil leak and sealents

hi.. my 94 tercel leaks oil .. i have successfully changed the valve cover gasket but unable to fix the oil pan .. i used RTV sealant on the oil pan but it is still leaking ..has anyone attempted to fix leaks from oil pan? what method did you used: gasket, sealant, or combination of both? Also, can any one tell me what an Oil Sending unit is? i wastold oil can leak from this as well? Where else can oil leak from?

wen adding sealant on the oil pan did u remove the old sealant with a scraper and how do u now that its the oil pan leaking at all ??

Re: help with oil leak and sealents

My last attempt at fixing an oil leak to an oil pan gave me loads of grief, the best method i found was to remove all the old sealant/gasket with a soft wire brush drill bit (be very careful here and be patient) then to get a new gasket with the red paste like sealant, the blue gel stuff was naff. Put it all back together and torque up the bolts. have you checked the drive shaft oil seals, these can be a problem on older cars.
