96 Jetta need kelp

Hello All, I have a 96 Jetta it has about 128,425 mile. I have put about 25 to 30 due to my travel to work etc.

My questions is this I have done the oil change on this car myself many - over the weekend I did it again - no problem there I drove the car then park it on my driveway.. Sat night and the car had not been driven since Monday morning when I need it for work.
While driving it on the highway my check Engine light when ON. And now it doesnt want to shut off.. The last time this happened I had to get the water pump replace. After i did the oil change - I started to look around the air filter - now the housing of the air filter has a wire taht gets plug to it - I have no idea was this is for.. But while I was looking at the fileter itself and after putting the top back on the gouseing i fail to plug this back on..

I didnt know this not until last night when I replace the air filter itself - I have put everything back as it should had been - BUT the engine light its still there.. what could cuase this ?

At the same time I wanted to replace the spark plugs but I have a problem that I cant get to 2 and 3 - can i remove - I think it is the monifold - it reads 2.0 on it to replace this plugs. And do any of you know what would be the easiest way just to move it so I can get these plugs?

I want to thank all of you in advance,

Carlos...

the CEL will not go away until you clear the code from the computer. one thing you may want to try is resetting the ECU by unplugging the ground wire from the battery. let it sit for a few minutes, then hook it back up. that may help, no garauntees.
in terms of the spark plugs, you can use these following tools to help you out, i know how much of a pain it is to do, but it is not necessary to remove the manifold.
universal:

lots of extensions

and of course a spark plug socket:

good luck!

Re: 96 Jetta need kelp

Just wanted to add to riceater's tools... if you use 1/4" drive and a small impact swivel (the ball socket type) it makes the job even easier.

oh yeah... you may have to adapt up to the 3/8 drive plug socket
