530 Gps Cd

hi...
i just bought i used 530, model 2002.
the GPS CD is missing.
i am told by the dealer that i have to buy this from them, and their asking for around $400 for it.
is there a way where i can get my hands on it say for free.
is it special for every car, or can i use one from someone elses car.
why can't the GPS system download a map from sat.
i have a handheld GPS and it downloads a general map just fine, why can't this one do the same.

please help.

your handheld gps downloads nothing from the sattelite. It already has a general map in its memory. All a GPS satellite really is is an atomic clock/radio transmitter that they put into orbit.

Hi aao:

You might want to check at eBay and see what they have for the BMW nav. CD software you are looking for.

Otherwise I suppose you are at the mercy of BMW for $400.00
