1995 5-speed with 175,000 miles Clicking
When I turn left and start out I hear clicking in the front axel...
If this is the CV joint...how hard is it to replace and where can I obtain the parts at the best price? Thanks...MJohn |

Re: 1995 5-speed with 175,000 miles Clicking
it's CV joint and i recommend to replace entire axle, it will little more expensive but whole a lot cleanner and faster.
to replace axle you need to remove wheel hub nut (~27-32mm), disconnect tie rod end from steering knockle, disconnect lower ball joint from lower control arm, pry axle out of differential.

it'll probably end up being $120 for the axle, and you'll get back about 50 bucks for the core (when you bring back the old part), I also had to pick up an axle nut socket ($14 for mine). But all of that is a heck of alot cheaper than bringing it to a shop.

Great...I appreciate the information...
What is the best manuel to buy for this car? If it clicks when turning left...is it the left or right CV joint? |

Re: 1995 5-speed with 175,000 miles Clicking
I'd say right - that's where the weight shifts to when turning left.
Manual? I'll bet people get downright religious about this, but it partly depends how much detailed help you need. Mine is a Chilton's and it's close to a shop manual -- assumes you are confident (and reasonably knowledgeable) about what you are doing. (Actually, that's a pretty bad choice on my part!!) |
