Blowing oil out of dipstick
Greetings,
My son has a 89 Bronco II with a 2.9L engine. The guy he bought it off of had the valve cover gasket replaced within the last two years but never followed up to get the covers retorque. All bolts were finger tight allowing oil to spray everywhere. After getting that problem fixed and replacing the rubber o-rings for the PCV valve and the oil breather cap, most the oil stopped leaking. The problem now is, it blows out of the oil dipstick. After talking with several people, we checked all vacuum lines and all are good. Does anybody know how long the dipstick is suppose to be for a 2.9L engine? The book calls for 5 quarts of oil and that is what we put in it when we change it and the filter. I'm looking for any ideas or things to check. Thanks Tim |

Re: Blowing oil out of dipstick
check the pcv valve, or you may have a ring ploblem and the blowby from the rings is more than the pcv can handle cuasing the pressure to blow out the dip stick tube

Re: Blowing oil out of dipstick
it sounds like the motor is hosed. The only time i have seen that type of pressure build up in the crankcase is when there is excessive blowby cause from a scored cylender, cracked pistons, or frozen rings, which basicly means of the motor is blown.

Cyl. #1 is hosed -- 15 PSI. All of the rest are 135-150 PSI. We plan on rebuilding the engine. Any way of telling if the cylinder wall is scored beside physically looking at it?
Thanks Tim |

Re: Blowing oil out of dipstick
By touch, I'm assuming. Doesn't really matter now, you'll have to pull that thing out. I say ditch the 2.9L and get a 302 w/C6 trans! Advance Adapters sell a conversion kit for it...
