Fuel sending unit recall announced

http://www.nissannews.com/corporate/...17020057.shtml

For those that have already paid out of pocket for this problem, I suggest you call Nissan consumer affairs and make a stink demanding reimbursement like they provided in the window regulator recall campaign.

Re: Fuel sending unit recall announced

A tip to pass on from a Nissan tech @ XOC:

PLEASE bring your vehicle in for the recall with the tank as low as you can manage. The tech will appreciate it!

P.S. - Leave a note under the rear passenger seat cushion if you want to be sure they know you were thinking of 'em

Bummer, we're not in the region for automatic replacement. But then that's probably why we haven't had many failures up here.

Keep bugging Nissan, I think they'll cover you in time. Surprised this wasn't part of the recall terms automatically like it was for the window regulators.

And yeah, there are a lot of us that "get around" the Xterra boards, I'm one of the worst

Re: Fuel sending unit recall announced

I guess I am lucky. I am living in Colorado, but sent to Maryland for 3 months. I will try to go to the local dealer to see if I can get it replaced since I am in one of the affected states.

Ok, how's this for service? After making the previous post I looked up the local dealers. One of them is open until 8:30pm on Saturdays. (and today is Saturday) I called them at 4:45pm and asked if they were aware of the recall and had the part. They said yes to both and told me that things were slow and I could get it done immediately. I was there by 5:15 and out by 6:30. Within two hours of finding out about the recall on the fuel sending unit I had it replaced. Doesn't get much better than that!
BTW, it was Jones Nissan in Bel Air, MD that took care of me.

But are they simply replacing it with another unit of the same design???

Or is there an improved unit with a different stock # to replace it???

Re: Fuel sending unit recall announced

Well, I seem recall that it was a new part, but if so, it hasn't bumped/superceded the old part number in the system. 25060-4S415 is the original part number and it still comes up as current:
http://www.nissanparts.cc/cart/?pn=25060-4S415

If it were superceded, the new part number would appear and there would be a notice at the bottom mentioning it.

?

Re: Fuel sending unit recall announced

For the manifold, 14004-4S102 is for 5/99-10/00, and it is superceded by 14004-4S103, which is spec'd from 10/00-1/02 (as far as my software is current) for NA and SC engines. If I then plug that in at nissaparts.cc, it appears to be current: http://www.nissanparts.cc/cart/?pn=14004-4S103

Looking at the TSB on the problem (NTB01-038), it covers Xterras and Frontiers built before 4/6/2001, and specs the 4S103 part as "a replacement right-hand exhaust manifold is available to correct the incident" which doesn't make much sense. If the "replacement" manifold was put into normal production vehicles at 10/00, that should be the point where the TSB no longer applies shouldn't it? Sounds like there are at least 6 months' worth of vehicles built with the "updated" manifold that are still supposedly susceptible to the problem per the 4/6/01 cut-off of the TSB. Go figure. I can't recall offhand but I'm pretty sure there are 02 and maybe even 03 owners that have experienced cracked manifolds, which means this "fix" is pretty useless.
