3000gt vs. c5(?) vette

So first off, I'll put up the disclaimer...I don't know if this was a c5, because I am not completely knowledgable on vettes. However, it was the new looking ones, kinda like the z06. So I am pretty sure it was. (Edit: It was a c5, I just looked up pics online to make sure)

So here goes: I had just gotten home from college (raced a 944 porsche on the way home but that wasn't as interesting.) So I met up with some friends, and we returned to my place. We are pulling in my driveway, and this vette cruises down my road, going pretty fast for a 25mph residencial zone. So I was like, "Oh hell no, you didn't just do that in front of my house". My passenger smiles and nods, I put it in reverse fly out of my driveway, whip out into the road, and take of after him. I get to the end of my road in time to see him go through a stop sign at 25. I cruised through it at a little slower, pulled up to the next turn. There were trees in the way so I couldn't see traffic, and I was right behind him at the stop, so when he turned, I just whipped out behind him. Now we are on the road right outside my development...where I got pulled over last summer, so I was hesitant to speed past the known speed trap...well apparently he wasn't. He takes off, I cruise by the speed trap at 35ish (it was empty), and then floor it once again trying to catch up. I catch him at a light, we both take a left hand turn. So now there are a few cars in front of us, but we are on a great road for racing. We manuever around the cars cruising at around 45ish, and I get close enough to realize that this isn't a prick guy, but a middle aged woman. So that kinda took me by surprise(no discriminatory message meant, I just wasn't expecting it)...anyways, we get through traffic and both speed up, but we catch another red. We we line up and on green I slipped the clutch at 3000rpm and floored it. Of course like the idiot I am, I got so excited for my first decent race in along time, that I totally blew the shift to 2nd and looked like a dumbass(yes I already hung my head in shame and stood in the corner as punishment). So for the last time, I catch up at the next light and am determined to show her up this time. So I toss my drivetrain cares to the wind and decide to do a 5500rpm launch(vr4 with AWD by the way). So this time on green I launch hard and just kept pulling. Took it to about 120 before letting off and just cruising for 2 miles to the next light. I took her by quite a few car lengths, but I think she gave up sooner than I did. Regardless, it was just good to be home where random races like this happen all the time.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Sorry, i had to chuckle at this one. Hell of a nice kill! Taking down Vettes is a hell of an accomplishment. I blew a vette away once while racing, but the vette was parked and i wasn't racing it!

^ I'm odd i know.

Again, nice kill!!

Re: 3000gt vs. c5(?) vette

lol yes you sure showed that lady who was going quickly down a residentianl by blowing stop signs and doing 120MPH on a non highway road. She will think twice before doing that again! Lol but good kill none the less. But if she continued on the gas and really wanted to push that vette in the long run she would have blown your doors off.

not exactly, she was a woman who probably had her t/c on and not using all of her 345hp, she most likely couldn't drive perfect so the better driver wins. and i think he has a b/c that would put him in the 12's so its easily beleivable that he took her. i usually see vettes run 13.3's seen one run 13.0 and one ran a 14.0, i beleive that one was with the t/c on.

nice kill igovert500 your now officially in the vette killer club with me and hotshot, lol.

Re: 3000gt vs. c5(?) vette

i believe you too. very nice kill man. nice to hear that chics are willing to race. and skater in ny why would a VR4 be annialated by a vette? Vr4s are capable of that and more. First you say that 3000gts are ugly cars with big eyes and now youre saying a C5 vette is a Way better car. Sorry but i completely disagree with you.

Re: 3000gt vs. c5(?) vette

I was under the impression that a c5 vette was pretty evenly matched with my vr4. No I don't have boost controller...yet, but this wasn't a ZO6, just the normal c5, which run mid 13s if I am not mistaken. Yes she would have taken me up top, with RWD's lower drivetrain loss, I am aware of that, but as I said, she let off prior to doing that. If she had continued, I would have still let off, because 120 is the top speed I feel comfortable with on that road. It is a 4 lane road, but has a 45mph speed limit, in the middle lanes without curbs to worry about many people race on the road, and since it is the divider between 2 counties, the cops rarely patrol it because they don't coordinate whose job it is to do so.
I doubt she was an amazing driver, probably just one who had a vette and likes to go fast. I didn't mean to imply it was an amazing race, but I had fun, so I thought I'd post.

As far as racing and blowing the stop sign because she went to fast by my house, I was being sarcastic, my friends and I always race people who fly by or mod their cars...if they attract our attention, we are always out to have some fun is all.
It is a street racing forum, so I figured most people on here enjoy acting the same way. I serious wonder why some people feel the need to criticize. It turns every racing thread into arguments with half disagreing in some manner and the other half defending it. This shouldn't have to be a 3000gt vs. vette thread, it's simply a story. Sorry if I am venting, I just hate to see every thread go downhill, just my .02. Thanks, Geoff

Re: 3000gt vs. c5(?) vette

okay..given you have a vr4..nice car, great car..but against a vette you'd have to do some mods in order to beat one..I'm pretty sure that lady wasn't trying to race you.

Re: 3000gt vs. c5(?) vette

wrong again, check the times bud, the vr4 runs a 13.5 vette runs 13.3, meaning no mods needed but its a drivers race. yeah the c5 vette has broken into the 12's and the vr4 has ran flats of 13 but all in all if she(and most likely did) have her traction control on she looses 30hp. so lets look at the stats.

vette 345hp with t/c about 315hp rwd
vr4 320hp awd.

its nothing to get bent out of shape about its very very possible for a vr4 or supra or rx-7 to beat a vette because its more less a drivers race. but for the most part with 2 great drivers then the vette is faster but not by much down low which is why its a drivers race.

Re: 3000gt vs. c5(?) vette

that's the problem everyone has it embedded in their head that vettes are the "fastest cars on the road".

Good kill, I have yet to race one with my new motor although I did pull up to an 86 that had a custom paint job and what not. He used to rev at me now he doesn't maybe he knows my secret

You people always wonder why supposebly the Street Racing forums never have any good stories on them, maybe if some people didnt flame and critisize every single race on here people would actually want to post stories.

The truth be told!

There are to many people around who are magazine racers.

Nice kill Taking down a vette that is several years newer then your car is not an easy task.
