Wastegasket?

Ok, now that i understand what a down pipe does, is there anybody that wouldnt mind explaining to me what the wastegasket does? PLEASE???

There is no such thing as a wastegasket, however, it is obvious what you intended to say. The part you are thinking of is called the "wastegate", it does exactly as it's name implys, it is a gate in the turbine housing (in the case of an internal wastegate) that wastes exhaust energy in order to control the speed of the turbine in the turbocharger. When a preset boost level is reached, the wastegate actuator opens a flapper door (wastegate) in the turbine housing via rod linkage. This flapper door allows exhaust gasses to bypass the turbine wheel, controlling it's speed. This is the way boost levels are controlled. Some turbochargers don't have a internal wastegate and require an external one in order to control it, this is a better type of wastegate, but is generally only installed in high performance applications.

sluttypatton was rite on what it does. i have heard people call it a wastegasket before 2. most of it is from people that dont really understand it and get it confused.
