Stroked LS Vtec (2.2) vs b20 vtec vs h22
Which out of those 3 will ,(a) be the cheapest, (b) lightest, and (c) most power output. I'm going for a turbo set up in my 99 teggy ls. I"m not completely sure if i want an h22 cause i don't want the car to be to front heavy, sacrficing handling. I don't want my car to be a strait up drag car, i just want a little more umph

Re: Stroked LS Vtec (2.2) vs b20 vtec vs h22
First off, I think you already took the h22 out of the running yourself in your post.
If I were you, I'd go for the b20/vtec cause the block is already 2.0 liters. If you stroke the LS its going to cost you close to 2 grand and it lowers the redline. So then you would end up with a high reving vtec head, on a lower reving LS block and then the stroker kit would lower that even more. Also (im not positive on this) but the stroker kit would mess up the R/S ratio even more then the vtec head on the LS block already does, not a good idea. Plus, the B20/vtec would be the cheapest. |

Re: Stroked LS Vtec (2.2) vs b20 vtec vs h22
LS and B20 share the same cranks and rods, and the rod/stroke ratio is not an issue for them.
If you're doing turbo there is no need to stroke it to a 2.2, no need to swap to a B20, and no need to swap to an H22. Get a set of eagle rods, some 9:1 pistons from anyone (CP, JE, arias, wiseco, it doesn't really matter who) throw those in your stock block maybe with a blockguard if you want, go with a vtec head preferably with GSR or ITR cams, and you're set. Lots of power, and it will be reliable with the new rods and pistons. |

Re: Stroked LS Vtec (2.2) vs b20 vtec vs h22
I just saw a H22 Swap into a bubble like mine at K-Modified (www.kmodifiedracing.com), And it was a very tight fit. The Engine is VERY HEAVY. A B20 Bottom End is an awesome combo with a GSR head or with a B16 head with Type R cams. It is as light as an LS and you get the added displacement. You run into a problem when considering boost though because the internals for a B20 are meant for a soccer mom in a CRV not for a turbo. The best bet fpr longrun horsepower IF CONSIDERING BOOST is a GSR because of the upgraded internals. I hope this helps. Check out KMOD though, they have some really good prices on all of their parts.
