real life or just fantasy?

I've had my 95 dodge caravan for about 5 months now. It has 230.000km on it. I know what was i thinking when buying right?
The problem is.. there is no problem.. It cscares me. Tranny shifts smooth.. there is tons a power and pretty much everything works as they should. I only had minor tune up stuff( brake pads, drums, fuel filter, rear wiper circuit)

Am i scared for no reason or is mine one of those vans that were made perfect?well maybe not perfect but relatively better..
I am really scared when driving it thinking that tranny will explode anytime!
I think i will trade it in for some other car.

anybody else out there with this kind of problem ? i know i am crazy but reading about the tranny problems and $2000 bills is making me sweat!!!
this is my 3rd car.. first one was a 79 olds delta 88 which the tranny decided to give up.. second was a 89 mazda 323 which i blew the gasket and warped the head and killed the water pump....

I dont want to kill another car..

what is your take on this..

later

If you read enough about any subject you will get scared. Every van has its problem, whether Ford Chevy or Dodge.

My uncle has a 94 with 480,000 km on it. Original engine, which actually still runs very well. Gone through 3 transmissions though. The transmission will eventually give up. Reality is you could buy a newer one, apy more for it and have the same problem.

Re: real life or just fantasy?

Deniz,

Don't buy into the foolish "bad press" stories about the vans.
I've had 3 and never had to have a transmission in any.
well, I still have the last one, but it's gone 115Kmiles without any problems with the trans.

don't get scared. Get even. Go tell the morons, who love to tell you how much these vans suck, how much you like yours!

I do.

You can either get a lemon, a so-so car, or one that has a charmed life. Keep your oil changed, the brakes and front end in good shape and working order, and by all means, keep the fluids checked! As long as the trans fluid isn't discolored or smells other than like trans fluid, and keep it serviced at its proper intervals, you are still good to go!

Re: real life or just fantasy?

There are millions on the road with hundreds of bad trannys. Thats less than 10% not too bad.Go to Allpar.com. Lots of trans problems are due to the wrong fluid or selonoid packs gone bad. For years DEXTRON was a standard fluid for transmissions not anymore! Some people and mechanics think trans Fluid is trans fluid, its more critical than what kind of motor oil you use.
My van is a 99 Voyager. My Transmission leaks at the input shaft seal. Have to keep a eye on the fluid level. My only complaint on this vehicle.
