60,000 Mile Service

I am new to this forum. I bought a new '99 Isuzu Rodeo, LSE, 2 wheel drive 4 years back and am happy with it. Now it's time to do my 60K service and am curious if the dealership is asking for too much. They gave me an estimate of $850. Is this normal for a 60K service? Are there a few things I can do without and trust the mechanic? Please share your experiences.
ps: If there is one thing I hate about the SUV is the faulty fuel level indicator.

You can do most of it yourself.

3) Replace Air Cleaner Filter
4) Change engine coolant (seems kind of early)
5) Rotate tires
6) Repack front wheel bearings (tires are already off due to the rotation above)
7) Check battery fluid – included in oil/filter change below
8) Check engine coolant level – included below
9) Check brake fluid level – included below
10) Check fluid leaks – included below
11) Change engine oil – included below
12) Replace engine oil filter
13) Check heater hoses –
14) Check exhaust system
15) Check engine drive belt
16) Check tires and wheels – included in rotation above
17) Check steering operation including lube
18) Check brake lines and hose – included below
19) Check disk brakes –
20) Check brake pedal play – should be included in the above
21) Check parking brake –
22) Lube accelerator linkage –
23) Check suspension and steering – steering included with 17, suspension
24) Check power steering fluid level – included in oil change
25) Lube body and chassis – included in oil change
26) Check TOD system fluid – included in oil change
27) Check auto cruise control linkage and hose ??? Never used cruise control, lets assume 10 minutes
28) Check starter safety switch –
29) Check accelerator linkage – included in 22
30) Lube key lock cylinder –
Finally yearly I would also, clean out the EGR (instruction below), and clean or replace the PCV, and
the throttle body.

Interesting Web-site

Wow! I wish I had this information on my 30K service. Nice maintained web-site too. However, I was looking more for the 60K service.
Also, after going through the web-site, any more update on the fuel gauge recall?

I think the 60k is pretty much like the 30k.

I think the recall was a hoax, but I read at least 2 -3 new posts every week about folks with dead sending units.

The most invasive/involved portion of the 60K mile maintenance would be the front hub disassembly for the bearing inspection & regrease. If your brakes are about shot, that's the time to do the front bearings. Stick with isuzu OEM brake parts. They last forever.
G/luck

Re: 60,000 Mile Service

I'm coming up on 60K my next visit..... I'd have to say that sounds rediculously expensive to me too, especially with the 2wd. Maybe you should either have them itemize the costs based on the list Ryan gave, or take it to another shop for a 2nd estimate; I hate my dealership and try to avoid them at all costs. Keep in mind too that any Honda dealership should be familiar with your vehicle.

List of things

So I talked to my Isuzu dealer. He mentioned there was no recall on the fuel gauge level detector or even if there was a 'real' problem with them. He also gave me a lis of things he would be doing for the 60K mile service.
1. Change Oil/Fuel filter
2. Inspect Brakes
3. Replace air filter
4. Rear differential fluid flush
5. Transmission fluid flush
6. Replace Coolant
7. Power steering fluid replacement
8. Front wheel bearing repacked
9. Brake fluid check

That's no where close to the list Ryan had? Is this enough?

Re: 60,000 Mile Service

those are the biggy's. I would also clean the EGR and Throttle body and PCV.

I think almost everything on the list is DIY.

I would let my dealer to the tranny flush (or better yet have them drop the pan and put in a new filter). and repack the front bearings. Keep in mind if you have your brakes replaced 15k down the road the front bearings will get repacked again.

I replace part of my power steering fluid each year. I just yank the lower hose, let it drain. Fill it back up, jack both font wheels off the ground, start engine, go from bumpstop to bumpstop 3 times to get the air out and your done.
