Question 81' Esprit?

Why is it that I can not, for the life of me, find any information about 1981 Firbird Esprit?

Id really like to know why they are so un-popular. Are they rare or somthing?

Re: 81' Esprit?

The Haynes manual covers these cars pretty well. What seems to be the problem with it?

there is nothing wrong with it at all, I just wanted to know if there was any reason I couldn't find any info about it.

Re: 81' Esprit?

I believe the Esprit was like a step up from the base Firebird. Most likely why you don't hear much about them is that they were incredibly underwhelming. It was the advent of computer controlled Carbs and the end of big cube engines.
Consider if you will... There were a whopping 3 engine variants V6, 301 & 305. HP ratings were 119, 155 & 155 respectively. I think they are good foundations but were obviously weak. On the plus side, they look killer.

Re: 81' Esprit?

PS Haynes manual handles 1981 as a seperate chapter so not all other books may even get to it.
The main reason why is computer control. 1981 was the begining of the end of analog engines.

Re: 81' Esprit?

My prayers are answered. I have a 1980 Esprit and i also cant find a damn thing. It drives me nuts. However, I was watching horsepower tv and I ordered a catalog from www.nationalpartsdepot.com but you need to have ur VIN handy because it is required for the FREE catalog. I have yet to recieve mine, however, I hear its pretty good.

i have a 79 and i found out that they called the esprit the "luxurious" model of the firebirds. they had different style gauges and interior and not rear spoiler. also they have different types with different years, mine is a esprite "red bird," because its a 79.
