A/C question?

My compressor is bad and I have a Freion (sp?) leak. Pep Boys told me it would cost around $1200 to repair and change it over to the new system. They also mentioned something about a clutch(no idea) I know it is cheaper to buy the parts I need and have my mechanic do it but how much would the parts cost and where can I find them for a cheap price?

Re: A/C question?

compressor and clutch sounds right if that is the failure..you might as well change your reciever dryer as well since you in there...try NAPA and Carquest and see if they can get you a remanufactured compressor and clutch and dryer..if your in the CA are there is a place called the parts dept..that carries alot of A/C parts there number is 800-454-2280 ...it does unfortunatly cost way to much to get systems changed over and its really hard to find somewhere that will repair your system without making you change it over...and it sucks because R12 cools much better than the R134 and R134A ...good luck man i hope I helped with your question

If you are converting to 134a from R12 thats a good thing. R12 is expensive now days. You can buy the conversion kit from autozone for cheap. You will just have to find the compressor and fix the leaks

So if I take care of the leaks and change the compressor, do I still need the clutch and dryer? I am planning on buying the parts and have them put on.
