"Check Engine Light"

My check engine light keeps coming on when I am driving on a highway (between 55-70mph) If I stop and turn off the car it will turn off and it will not come on for a couple of hours or maybe until the next day. Anyone has any idea why this is happening?

Thanks

Re: "Check Engine Light"

your ecu is clearing the codes apon reset...it could be a number of things causing it... you said it was between 55-70 when it kicks..but it doesnt always kick then ?? have you made any mods recently and is your car doign anything before or after this CEL comes on ?? I dont wanna speculate on causes ...more info would be good

it

does does not turn on all the time when I get to that speed. The light just comes on on its own. The car is shaking but I know I need to get my tires balanced and a wheel alignment. I have not done anything to it since I just got the car last week. I do not know if the shaking has anything to do with it but this morning I was doing 85 and it never came on and the car was not shacking at that speed.

Re: "Check Engine Light"

well pulling codes is the same for any car if you have the scantool..which i doubt you do...either way the codes would have to be cleared after repair anyways..the best i can do is tell ya to take to the dealer or your preffered shop and have the cel codes pulled and see what is going on and which sensor is acting up

Thanks for your help man. I was thinking about doing what you said about taking it to a shop and put it on the computer. Do you think it might be a sensor? I hope so because I do not know what else can cause this light to come on.

what you should do is next time your engine light comes on pull over and read the code depending on the year you car is the engine light or the ecu led will blink when you connect a jumper wire int the diagnostic plug get a repair manual for your particular year and it will tell you how to read the codes

Re: "Check Engine Light"

my car was doing something similiar, the MIL or check engine light would come on for a few hundred miles and than go off and it would repeat the process. the code was a po420 (catalyst efficiency) i replaced the cat and so far after about 600 mi or so it hasnt come on again.
