Wuts better stick or atuo

alright, what saves you more gas, and what is better to drag race in, i guessing the stick maybe better in saving gas due to that u may keep the car in low rpms, and i'm guessing auto may be better in a drag due to consistant power to the wheels, but i'm not sure so give me what u know

Re: Wuts better stick or atuo

ok yes stick is better for gas mileage, given you know how to drive one and you know your clutch point really well so you aren't over revving on shifts and as far as the automatic being better for drag racing, put it this way some friends of mine run a 03 cobra mustang drag car and it has a racing automatic shift kit on it and it runs high 8's in the 1/4 and he has won the drag wars multiple times, so i would say that auto is better for drag racing.

Could be more specific, difference between 4 spd, 5 spd and 6 spd. compared to what automatic? powerglide, turbo 350, 400, overdrive auto? My 69 firebird had a turbo 400, with no other changes I lost 2 miles per gal changing to a muncie 4 spd. As far as drag racing, it's not who's faster, it's who's the most consistnet. and auto's are more consistent. to me standards are more fun. .

Re: Wuts better stick or atuo

he asked us a general question he got a general answere..... thats all

it also depends on how well built a tranny is, what gears and how many gears are in it. but you already know that.

Re: Wuts better stick or atuo

um. automatic better for drag racing? in a street car. no. manuals are always faster than automatics. take the same exact car in the same exact conditions with a driver of the same exact skill and the manual will beat the automatic. and consistency comes with a good driver. sure anyone can get in an automatic and mash the accelerator. but wheres the fun in that? i guess it's really a preference...but go down to your local drag strip and ask some racers what they prefer. depending on the classes you'll get varying opinions but i'm sure the racers in street cars will say manual. oh and the gas question. manuals tend to do a little better but they'll do just as good depending on how far you push down the gas pedal. if you're easy on the gas pedal, your car will be easier on the gas.

Re: Wuts better stick or atuo

The way technology is going; It is to the point where (some) auto's are faster than a stick. A computer will/can shift at the same rpm, at the same time, every time. And a computer can switch gears faster than you can mash the clutch and tap the shifter.

I think manuals are more as well, but I'm just saying, especially with modern technology, you will be more consistent, and arguably just as fast or faster with an auto

although an automatic shifts dead on. it's not shifting with performance in mind. not to mention you always lose power with an automatic.

Re: Wuts better stick or atuo

stock for stock yes the stick is usually faster but once you start to modify them the auto is usaully easier and cheaper to make go more quickly and more consistantly

Re: Wuts better stick or atuo

I like sticks for many reasons: (1)Usually cheaper & easier to repair (2) less drivetrain power loss (3) better mileage (4) can put in lower rear-axle gears (5) more fun!

Re: Wuts better stick or atuo

1/4 mile automatic with a shift kit will always be faster than stick....its been proven many many times. yes stick is more fun, better gas mileage etc...

Formulaforce, are you saying you can't put lower gears on an automatic? Because I have a turbo 350 and was planning on getting a 700R with a gear reduction.
