Overheating problem

For some reason I am having an overheating problem in my 94 GT. It isn't all the time but once is to many. The car has a new radiator and a new thermostat (180) and new fluid. At first I was beginning to think it was the fan because it at times doesn't seem like it comes on often enough, but at this point I'm guessing. Any helpful advice would be appreciated.

I have the same thing on my 95 GT. Tried a new radiator, head gaskets, temperature sensor, water pump, thermostat, and it still overheats does it. I hate it when I get a gremlin like that.

Well I replaced the coolant temp sensor and the temp switch tested the fan replaced the thermostat ect. None of this fixed the problem. Turns out that the problem is with the CCRM. See whats happening is that the fan isnt comming on like it is supposed to. You see there is a relay that controls the fan when the temp of the coolant gets a certain temp. There is actually two relays. One for high speed fan and one for low. Both of these relays are housed inside a little box to the left of your radiator. This is the CCRM. Now the CCRM is supposed to send these relays a signal to kick on but for some reason the 94-95 mustangs are notorious for this going out. It either works sometimes or it goes out all together the result is a constant overheating problem.

So the fix, is to either replace the CCRM or to activate the relay itself by sending pin #14 (low speed fan) a 12v signal. You can opt for #17 (high speed fan) if you like. I wired a switch on my console and used pin #14 for low fan tonight. I drove the car for about 45 minutes and had no problems. The temp never got past R in normal. Most of the time it was on O.

Eventually I'll get another CCRM but I'll probably leave the switch just in case.

Re: Overheating problem

Damn, you figured it out before I could tell you to carry a bucket of water in the back seat. J/k lol. Im glad someone understands these ford computers. Anyway I can get away from converting to mass and spending a bunch of money to change my cam in my '90 f-150?

Re: Overheating problem

I just want a little bigger cam in my truck. Its hydro roller already from the factory. I just want a little more power out of it. Its not hurting at all for power now, runs with just about everything around here. I'm just gonna want some more torque when I'm pulling my car for the most part. I have been wanting to change the cam in the truck for a while now, just didnt want to get into a big mess of money with my every day driver.

Have you thought about adding a performance chip from Jet or Hypertech? That might be a quick easy way of getting what you want without opening up the motor. Couple that with a K+N Air filter and some exhuast improvements and that might be enough to give you that little bit extra your looking for. Anytime you start talking about changing the cam unless it is a mild cam it usually starts turning into a mess with the computer. Not that you can't get around problems like that but it doesn't sound like you really want take all that on.

Re: Overheating problem

Well so far i have Flowtech shortys, H-pipe, and 1 chamber flowmasters, with 3 1/2" tips turned out the side behind the rear wheels. Sounds damn good and is very loud. I have a K&N just in the factory air box. A underdrive crank pulley, and some Lakewood traction bars to reduce wheel hop. I had the timing advanced a little to run best on higher octane gas and it seemed to rev a little faster, which makes since because lower octance fuel burns slower. But I set the timing back when I had to change back to 87 for the gas prices. I have thought about a chip but didnt know if they made one for a '90. Only 82,000 miles on this truck by the way, so I cant really hurt it.

Okay, so where did you get the CCRM? I checked a few websites and it is not listed.

I havent gotten one yet for pretty much that reason. So far the only place I know of is the salvage yard or the dealer. I for one don't like getting electronics from the junk yard because you never know what your getting. On top of that 94-95 mustangs are almost impossible to find in the salvage yard.

So looks like sooner or later im gonna be grabbing my ankles at the dealer.
