Is the timing chain a pain in the ass to replace?

Is the timing chain in a ka24de a pain in the ass to replace? I had that rattle noise that is from the timing chain/tensioners. I found the parts but might not have the right tools. Has anyone done it? How long did it take. Any advice would be great!

Yeah its not real hard job but. I just finished doing it on with my friend on his car. It's really just time consuming.

Re: Is the timing chain a pain in the ass to replace?

well, if you are doing it your self be very careful, you mess up the timing and depending wether it is an interference or non-inteference engine, you could bend you valves, dent your piston and ruin you head. Not to scare you.
Get some white out mark the sprockets and the crank so as to make sure it is in the same place when you replace it. Not that difficult.

Re: Is the timing chain a pain in the ass to replace?

it isnt easy
you pretty much gotta remove the forward half of the engine. and its a tight fit down there. but it is possible just time consuming

Re: Is the timing chain a pain in the ass to replace?

not to mention having to drain radiator fluids, change the oil, plus the really stubborn bolts and stuff that suddenly make your work a million times more difficult. you might need a special tool too to tension the timing chain. i just decided to ignore the kinda loose chain on mine and let it make a slight rattling sound at idle. the whole engine is getting old anyway. if you don't care if your engine is eventually gonna stop running cuz of it and be damaged beyond repair, then i say just f--- it. i think it's a better deal to spend a couple hundred more and get a newer ka24de than replace the timing chain on an old ka24de.

Re: Is the timing chain a pain in the ass to replace?

Well first of all it is only going to cost around 200 for the timing chain and tensioners. Im not afraid of spending some time on it since it isnt my daily driver so all im worried about is the special tools and where i would get it. It doesn't make sense to buy a new engine.

Thanks for your help.
