Engine Build Up

I just purchased a 1991 Mr2 turbo and the mods in the car right now are a jspec engine, greddy exhaust, greddy intercooler and a hks intake. Now I would like to take the engine out and replace anything that needs to be replaced but since I have it out I would like to put in new internals. Do you guys think that would be a good idea or do you have some suggestions? Also since it would be out then I would do my clutch. I would like to go no more than 400hp so what ever suggestions you guys have thanks

Re: Engine Build Up

If it isn't broke, don't fix it.

The OEM engine can handle a lot of HP ... if your is running fine, leave it alone There is no need for internals for big HP.

You make a great point. How much hp can the stock one hold? If you don't mind me asking have you modified your internals at all? Would it be easier taking the engine out and changing the clutch or leaving it in and doing it that way? Also i'm leaking oil from somewhere on the side the trans not on it I was wondering if you might know where? I know that description doesn't help all that much but anything would help thanks

Re: Engine Build Up

You are probably leaking at the rear main seal.
Do a new one when you you do your clutch.

My engine has 197,200 miles and has never been opened.

There are MR2s with 500+ hp on stock internals ... it is all about tuning it right and keeping it safe.
