42 offset?? Please help

I saw some nice rims off groupbuy and they are 17x7 and 4x100 with a 42 offset. Is that good or bad?? Will I get any rubbing?

should be cool unless your royally slammed. with my civic i was dropped over 2 inches with a set of eibach sportlines (1.7 my ass) and had a set of 17" rims with a 37 mm offset and really only rubbed on hard conering and sharp 90-180 degree turns. after i raised the civic back up with pro kits (not much more) it all but stopped. so you should be fine.

Those would be the perfect size for a Civic. You won't have any rubbing problems. With the 42offset you could even drop your car for more +2" and still not rub.

offset is the distance measured between the wheel's actual hub mount and it's relation to dead centre of the wheel. for instance, a deep dish rim has very little offset. on a honda, which most people use a 42-47mm offset, it means if you look at the wheel head on, and imagine a straight line from top to bottom splitting the wheel in half, the lug/hub mount is 42-47mm to the outside from the centre line.

negative offset would mean the hub is inboard of the wheel's centre line.

too much offset reduces the track width of the vehicle, while too little offset can push the tyres out too far and cause fender rub. too little offset also wreaks havoc on your wheel bearings, as the load of the car now stresses the bearings at an angle instead of straight down.

here's a good write up and pictures to illustrate what i'm talkin about: http://www.discounttiredirect.com/helpWheelOffsets.html
