you win some you lose some

ok well this is my first post for an actual street race. Tonight on my way home in my 2001 Z24 stock except for K&N i raced to two cars. A Pontiac Grand Prix GT like 2000-2003 model and a mustang GT96-99 model. First i raced the Grand Prix, Not sure what kind of mods were done to the car, windows were tinted out, had 4 exhaust tips, ground effects, and the letters KN on the back window. I see him pull out in front of me while turning onto the road, i quickly catch up and chase him through traffic at about 55 MPH to get ahead of the lights so they arent always green. We get to a red and its on, we both start out kinda slow only bout 5 MPH getting even then he punches it and i follow right after. Once we both punched it my bumber was at about the middle of his car, but i quickly made that up and inched to about dead even, buy this time we were doing 50 in a 40, so im still peddle to the floor slowly crawling my way away, finally at about 80 MPH i shut down and now his front bumper was at about the middle of my car. Ill take that win, even though it wasnt a big win a win is still a win. Glad i stopped when i did cause about a block later their was a cop.
Next race i get off the interstate and as soon as i do a nice loud yellow mustang GT pulls in front of me. Had some nice dual exhaust that sounded really good, also had a 7 inch LCD TV in it, so i know the kid driving had to have spent some cash on it. So anways i get next to the kid and start pumping the gas, making noise and he quickly smashes the peddle as do i. We were going about 35 MPH when we do, he manages to pull about a cars length lead on me untill we get to the next light and race again. This time its from a dead stop, i was supprised my cavy kept up with him untill about 45-50MPH then he would pull really hard and get about a cars length lead on me. anyways he won, not sure what he had done to the car cause when i tried to ask him at the next light he moved over so their was a car between us. The car had a nice exhaust on it, sounded really good, the 7inch LCD tv and he was more than willing to race so he prolly had a few other mods on it. I was just suprised by how well my Z24 Cavalier kept up with him. The only reason may have been cause he had an automatic, im pretty sure it was. But none the less, my little 2.4L 150 HP against his monster V8 and i didnt do half bad considering mine is bone stock. . .for now i ordered my Cold air intake the other day, then im getting a larger throttle body, headers and high flow cat.

BUt anways fun times, nothing like doing 80-90MPH in a 45 while racing to get your adrenaline pumping. And please dont raise the BS flag and say im full of shit, trust me i am the least likely person in here to lie about cars cause i know so little about them i know i cant back up my lies. But most of you prolly dont know, a 2001 Z24 stock runs high 15's 1/4 mile. So dont think cause its a cavy its slow. Anways good times!!

Stock Cavalier Z24 with K&N filters VS Grand Prix GT...not bad! I'd have thought the Grand Prix would've won that one top end...but off the line i'd have you'd take him....

When it comes to the Mustang GT, if he had exhaust and a few other things, i think he was playing with you, just to see what you could do.

Sounds like it was a fun night!

Re: you win some you lose some

the GT could have been. But by the time we got to 70MPH he had like a 2 car lead on me. I could only slightly keep up with him till about 45-50MPH. Either way it was fun. Just curous what does a Mustang GT run stock 1/4 mile in?
The guy in the grandprix seemed mad cause after i shut down he flew past me and didnt look back.

ah you did good keeping up with the stang in your cavy. If it was an auto stang though then its not as fast as the manual, in fact it is quite a significant bit slower in the quarter mile as an auto. anyway, the mustang GT manual runs the quarter in low 14's and high 15's to 16's in auto form from what i remember.
not trying to rain on your parade or anything but maybe it coulda been a v6. many v6 mustang guys sadly put GT badges on their cars here.
you've got the weight advantage going for you. keep modifying your cavy and you'll be killin those stangs in no time anyway

looks like you had a fun night. I love the feeling of comming back home after racing someone like that. Makes you wanna go back and cruise the streets to find another.

I have noticed something lately though, i only run into races when i'm going somewhere or going back home, but when i'm looking for one i can get nothing.

you said it was a 96-99 stang GT. those stangs runs a 15 flat stock. so its definitly believable you kept up with him.
