interior lights..dashboard..dimming and undimming

my speedometer and other dashboard light sometimes ficker and get dimmer, and then get bright again....any clue to whats wrong?

when's it happening? if you're running a hot sound sys, you may be pullin' too many amps at times... if so a cap (capacitor) can help...

turn the dimmer (headlight switch) through its full range, if lights flicker through the motion of the switch- take it out of dash and spray it up with some electrical contact cleaner while working the switch through its range (low to high)
