Dear BMW Forum:
I own a new 2004 530i owner, and I was wondering if anyone here knows the reason why that BMW don't perform motor oil changes in their full schedule maintenance program, but once a year or every 14,000 miles? I was use to changing motor oil in my new corvette every 3,500 to 4000 miles, but every 14000 miles for BMW's. Now I would like to think my BMW 04 530i is almost indestructible, but it is not! I am no BMW mechanic, (I wish), but I know all cars have moving metal parts that needs oil to reduce friction, but is Bimmers that much tougher than the rest of cars out there on todays market? I personally believe not changing motor oil more frequently than every 14,0000miles in ANY car is just asking for earlier engine failure, That is, unless all Bimmers are Omnipotent! Now I am just kidding about Bimmers being Omnipotent, (Although I bet Chris B. probably thinks they are at times, jk LOL), but seriously has anyone in this forum have a view point on this issue of BMW oil changes? If so, I would like to hear you viewpoint on this oil change issue. Also what kind of oil and what weight do you use, and when do you change the oil in your own BMW? Does anyone know If Castol Synthetic oil approved by BMW? Thanks, Ep = Atlanta GA

Re: 2004 BMW 530i oil changes every 14,000?
cut the interval in half and pay for it if you plan to keep the car. when they get high mileage with the long interval you start having problems with the valvetrain.

Thanks "crash8168" for your quick reply! Since I posted last on this oil issue to the forum, I read somewhere on the www that I have a BMW high performance synthetic 5-30wt. engine oil in my 2004 530i, and its oil change interval is approximately 15,000 miles or once a year, which I do not necessarily agree with. But what I do agree with is what you advised me to do, cut my oil changes in half and pay for it myself, See I come from the older school, and I do not know much about this synthetic oil break through, but what I do know is that it does cost a lot more that the conventional engine oil, because of the synthetic oil longevity, superior products that it has in it, etc. I did some price shopping on the www and I found the Castrol Syntec brand is approx.: $7.00 a quart. No telling what BMW charges for theirs, I am afraid to ask! (just kidding LOL)Last Question: Would you feel safe using Castrol Syntec brand over the BMW high performance synthetic oil brand? Or do you have any others that you would use, and if so which one (s)? Sincerely a new to the "Bimmer game" 04 530i owner, Ep = Atlanta GA
