Check Engine Light
I just replaced the starter (not easy) on my 94 4runner and now my check engine light is on. The electrial system seems to be working fine. How can I reset the light and see if it is just a fluke. I really don't want to take it to the dealer.

With the ignition turned off, remove the EFI fuse (15A) for 20 seconds before replacing it. This should clear the codes in the ECM memory and reset the check engine light.

Re: Check Engine Light
Why? What can I do to make sure it stays off? The vehicle is running great now.

Re: Check Engine Light
If it goes back on, you need the service book, it has a list of the codes needed to figure out what is wrong with your Runner.
It tells you how to do it. You have to short a couple of terminals in the diagnosis plug, then turn the ignition on without starting it; the check engine lite will then start to blink. According to it's blinking pattern (it's code), you need the book to tell you how to decipher it's code. It will pretty much tell you exactly what's wrong, or at least give you a good hint as to where to start. |
