Street racing in Philly

5*7*04 I went street racing with 10 of my friends for the first time in philly. We went down neer the Philly Int. airport.take I-95 towards the airport and take exit 14 take the fist right ad go stait down to to gas station and the tity bar.you'll see lots of hot chicks and cars. Any ways i've been to the races at Puerto Rico they were a little more organizied. We got there at around 11pm and left around 2am.we almost got arrested when an undercover cop pulled up right in front of the racers and 4 feet a way from me and my friend george.George called out 5!! 0!! 5!! 0!! every one split.some guy busted his ass while trying to jump off some pickup truck he landed dead on his face(DUM ASS).Anyway i just want to say that keep the cops running and keep the rubber burning. Can't wait to go next week. peace

Re: Street racing in Philly

see thats what bugs me about stupid kids, they dont know the laws. I know some states make it illegal to watch a street race, let alone race in one. But in most states its not illegal to watch a street race. So your sitting their waiting to watch a race and some cops come up so you run away like cockroaches when the lights in a room are turned on? Those cops were prolly laughing their asses off at you guys. I would have talked to the cops, why run away scared, if you werent doing anything illegal. And 1 undercover cop? gimmie a break, he wasnt going to do anything more than tell you to leave. Your no badass, look like a scared little 16 year old in mommies minivan.

Re: Street racing in Philly

LOL
as I said there is a reason why its so gay around here I think the most fun i had there was all the times I didn't go.
Cops already know where it is and bust it all the time some clowns *no need to point fingers they do it them self* keep going anyway

Re: Street racing in Philly

Ok, just to add my own experiences. I have raced in Philly on multiple occassions, and it sounds like a few of you have been there as well.

First off, it really is like that, and gay is the last word I would use to describe it. I have had boring times down there, but I have also had some good times. There are literally hundreds of cars, your adrenaline gets pumping, and you get in an occasional race.

2nd, In Philly it actually is illegal to watch the races, I know from experience as cops pulled up next to us while we were repairing a friends car(it was on the jack) I spent 15 minutes convincing the cop not to arrest us and impound our cars. She specifically told us that even watching it was illegal in response to us originally telling her we weren't racing. We got away with a warning, but if they even get your license plate # you can lose you license even if your car is parked on the side of the road not involved in the races. I have seen them ticket innocent drivers 2 hours after the races were broken up, just because they were shortcutting down the industrial park road that the racers typically use.
Lastly, it really doesn't matter that he mentioned that location. It is a strip of road that has a adult bar, a mcdonalds and a grocery store. It is right off I-95. Alot of the people more or less meet up there to go to other spots to race, that specific road has too much traffic. The cops know about it, they also know about the 15-20 places people race every Friday night throughout the city. The problem is that they don't have enough cops to properly enforce the laws when so many people race. The best they do is to swoop in with 10 cars at one of the 20 sites, chase the racers out of the city( they simply return) that is why they have resorted to taking license plates down. They don't differentiate between spectating and racing...all is worthy of losing your license because you are supporting/encouraging street racing. The cops know the spots, they simply don't have the man power to enforce it. They do their best, but against too many people.
Yes bad360, there are way too many stupid kids, I have seen drivers hit other kids as they are running for their cars, way too many inexperienced drivers come out. That is why I stopped racing down there as well. But they don't have a track closer then Englishtown or Atco, so they do what they do regardless. Just my .02

Re: Street racing in Philly

That's what sucks, they have an Navy base in Willow Grove 20 mins north of the city, they(Navy) had some industrial building/park on Street RD in Warminster. When they left it, it was rumored that it was being turned into a track, but to no avail, as I heard it the neighbors complained about sound...these are the same neighbors that deal with the largest Navy airbase on the Eastern Seaboard...bastards.

The law in philly is that it is illegal to watch a street race. I'm not stupid, i'm not 16 and i don't drive my mom's minivan, she doesn't even have one. I'm 18 smart and a good driver/racer. There were 4 undercover cops not one(all in one car). The cops pulled up 4 feet away from us.I don't think i'm going to stay there and have a conversation with the cop...so how was your day officer?! Hey I'm sorry if i offended anybody for giving directions to the place, It was stupid to do that. This is my first forum i've wrote in this topic. My friends got arrested when they tried to take to the copstheygot a $150.00 dallar fine for watcing street racing.Philly really needs a track it's a good way to make money.

Maple Grove Raceway ... NHRA Track ... 30-40 minutes from Philadelphia.
ATCO Raceway, NJ ... NHRA Track ... 30-40 minutes from Philadelphia (I think they even have open tracks on Wednesday nights in addition to weekends).

People do not street race because they lack legal options.
They do it because they lack something else.
