New owner 87 Prelude

Hello everybody. I found these boards while researching Preludes and thought I'd ask you guys some questions. I just got an manual 87 Prelude Si for my first car, I love it so far. It has 138,000 miles, so it's probably getting a little cranky, but it seems to be in good running condition. Right now I'm wondering what to do with it. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go for the oil change and rotate the tires, but other than that, what? Is there anything that might need attention? The clutch was replaced and the air filter is almost new. What about the transmission fluid? Power steering fluid?

I'm totally new to cars so I really don't have much of a clue, I'd really appreciate any help. Also, if anyone has any driving tips(I'm just learning stick too), insurance tips, etc. for a new driver, lay it on me. Finally, any worthwhile aftermarket parts I can pick up for pretty cheap to make it stand out? I'm not talking ricer crap, but it could look really nice with a couple things. Thankyou all SO much for any help, I'm glad to finally have a car.

Re: New owner 87 Prelude

Congrats on the new car! In my opinion some things to check:
-Timing belt and water pump
-Check for leaks (coolant, oil, etc.)
-Gaskets and sensors might need replacing
-A tune up wouldn't hurt either

I suggest going to a few mechanics for second opinions, so you don't get ripped off.

Insurance advice: get comprehensive. Honda's get stolen alot. You will regret it if you don't.

Also, 137,000 miles is LOW for an 87. I have a 91 with 149,000.

Good luck, let me know if you have more q's.

I would check all of the fluids and change them so you can start a new service record. Check the tires, brakes, belts, etc.

Re: New owner 87 Prelude

Hey guys, thanks for the replies! I think based on your advice I'll get most or all of the fluids changed, and have a couple friends who are mechanics check the belts and brakes.
Any tips for driving stick? Or this partcular car? Thanks once again for your help.
