piston rings

hey all remember that thread about the camaro ss vs the corvette because of oil consumption problems????? well, guess what job i just got at work today. an 01 Z06 piston ring replacement. lol. 20 hour job. lucky bastard just sneaked in under warranty. so im elbows deep in a LS6 engine and i am beat. pullin the whole engine aprt and the cradle out from under it, gonna put the supports on it to mount it to the fram rails, and then pull the pan, the rod caps, push the pistons out the top and put it all back together. a word of warning for anyone who goes into an LS based engine, watch them edges, all the machined aluminum surfaces are sharp as razors, my hands were cut up and bleeding all day. oh and have fun with the engine coolant passage plugs. i broke two sockets, and a universal joint by hand trying to get that plug out. finally gave up. just let the coolant spill out when i pulled the heads.

Re: piston rings

Ouch.. Thats quite the task.. On the plus side, your gettin paid to do it! If I got paid to rip an engine apart every time ive had to do it, Ide be a rich man! I had to pull most of the top end of my supra off today After work.. My fingers are too short and fat for this $hit... All that ta find out my turbo is shot, and my valve cover gaskets leaked all my new oil into the plug valley... AND my exhaust leak is due to the wrong bolts used to fasten the exhaust manifold onto the Aluminum head, then they were all stripped in.. Ahhggg.. SHoulda left it alone! sorry.. just had to vent

I think im gonna build me a garage! Just like the one off of monster garage! with a coffee maker n' everything! Than maybe I can get one of these lemons to run right! my supra just about blew up on me this morning! smoke everywhere.. And my camaro's shaved handle kit is screwin' up and wont let me in! Then once I get in.. Its 50/50 wether the VATS is gonna let me drive anyway??!!
