Thumbs down Got a few problems.

I have a 1992 Safari with the Tiara conversion. About 3 years ago the transmission went out and it sat for over a year. Then I replaced it and it sat for about 6 or 7 months. I had a time getting it started when i decided it was time to sell it. After getting it running and changing the battery 2 times in 2 weeks and breaking down in the middle of the road and having to walk home I decided to change the alternator. I went to Auto Zone and purchased a remanufactured alternator and replaced it. The van ran great with a full charge for about a week (something that it didn't do before I changed the alternator). Then, the meter in the dash dropped too low and the battery light came on. I tightened the nut on the back of the alternator and it's still too low. I can get it started, but if i shut it off and try to start it again no luck. Then it will sit for a while and i can start it again. Also, my gas gauge is bouncing a lot and the speedometer doesn't work at all. The electric door locks work on all the doors except the driver's side, which works sometimes. I took the door panel off and hooked up a new actuator (because i wanted to make sure that the old one didn't work before taking it out) and it didn't work. Also, i recently replaced the dual window motor switch on the driver's side and put in a new window motor on the passenger side and the passenger side doesn't work. And ideas on what may be the cause of all my problems?

I had 95 GEO PRIZM and the alternator went out on it too. I also tried the refurbished alternators, in fact I tried 5 of them. All of them caused the car to die within 2 weeks. I would recommend spending the money for the new one, they are generally guaranteed to work, and if they don't, they come with a warranty so you don't have to pay for another one. Refurbs don't.

Re: Got a few problems.

I've already changed the alternator again with a remaned one and have driven the van for a good while and it has been ok.
