blown b20 with b18b tranny?
I have been doing a ton of research lately to try and decide what motor I am going to end up getting. I have narrowed it down to the b18b or the b20. I have plans to boost the motor next summer (because 140hp is nowhere near satisfying). Anyways, I have been considering the b20 simply based on larger displacement, bore, etc. I feel like I can run more boost through that motor as opposed to the b18b. I'm just curious if anyone has any knowledge on the reliability of using the b18 tranny with b20 motor. I know that b-series motors have mostly interchangable parts, but the fact is: they weren't designed for what i'm doing. I've also basically figured out the b18b and b20 are almost twins of each other, but I'm still nervous mixing parts. I have decided I don't want to do the VTEC head simply because of $ and horror stories. If anyone has any input on this situation at all, plz feel free to share your opinions!

Re: blown b20 with b18b tranny?
well b- series tranny's arnt all the same, the gearing changes from trans to trans as well as LSD units..and for the most part all the gears are interchangable..say you wanted an LS final drive in a GSR tranny with a type r lsd...it can all be done..considering your gears are all on the shaft....but as far as a stock tranny it goes many ways, some people prefer the LS tranny for a boosted motor due to the much longer gearing..this in return puts more load on the turbo and give it a longer boost time in gear...but on the other hand you have say the GSR which has much tighter gearing, this in return would allow you to accelerate much faster than the LS tranny essentialy allowing you to reach boost much faster. then you have the type r which has much tighter gears and a factory LSD, some of your JDM GSR tranny's can also be found with LSD's... i am in this delima as of right now on rather i want to go LS or GSR tranny with a LSD. As far as the transmission being able to hook up your power from a turbo, your in no probloms there..a honda tranny can take a hell of alot abuse well over the 300 even into the 400 range..now as far as your axels once you get well into the 300 range you will need to upgrade your axels with the apropriate stage.. driveshaftshop.com ......i think i covered your questions ? oh and as far as the b18b or the b20..personally i say go with the b18b as it is a little stronger, but if your going to be building internals then this would not be an issue as much

Re: blown b20 with b18b tranny?
If you are going to build up the bottom, I would say go with the b20 due to it's larger displacement, but if you aren't going to build the block, then go with the b18. I say if you are already going to have the motor torn apart, you had might as well build the bottom a bit, so you don't have to take everything apart later when you decide to build it. Get some good forged pistons and rods, and a good head gasket, those will allow you to boost much higher, and if you really want to make the bottom strong, I would say get it re-sleeved, and close the deck. If you have the money, those are very good things! Good luck.

Re: blown b20 with b18b tranny?
the b18b seems like my best bet. I can also get the whole swap for $1800. I'm pretty confident my decision has been made.
