supertrapp muffler

I am thinking of building a custom exhaust for my civic and I was looking at supertrapp for the muffler. Has anyone used one of these? How well do they work? I know you can tune them, but is it enough to make a reasonable difference?

lol i love it the reason you havent heard of it is because you like the mainstream products like apc and the like super trapp's been around for quite a while and if you pick up a summit and look in the exhaust area and read what they advertise you'll notice this company is onto something with its tunablilty you can even take out all the disks and it acts like a tip w/o a muffler just my

Re: supertrapp muffler

actually i hate apc junk and i hate most mainstream stuff....i read more into tech articles and pretty much just flip thru the advertisments for the most parts so the only reason i would have seen them is if somone in VA that runs or shows was running one..otherwise i wouldnt have noticed it..unless a tech article had been writtin lately that i would remember....so dont go castin stones

oh yeah and i never gave false info cause i didnt even know what it was!!!..so lets get that strait..i said that if it was soley a muffler then a cat-back would be a much better choice unless there was a custom exhaust issue.....

Re: supertrapp muffler

I've used Supertrapp mufflers in the past. The first time I heard about them was about 15 years ago. At that time I mostly saw them on hot rods, bikes and off road vehicles. The Idea behind a Supertrapp is that they are adjustable so that you can take full advantage of your motor and header system. This also means that you can tune them down when you're driving in the city (so you don't piss off your neighbors or catch the attention of the local authorities), then you can open them back up again when you're at the track.

I think that part of the reason that people into import racing haven't heard of them is because they haven't really marketed themselves to the import community. Another reason is that they aren't exactly attractive (although recently they seem to be working on that aspect), and I think that turns alot of people away. Also, in order to really take advantage of a Supertrapp you will need to build a custom exhaust for it, and it seems that most import racers prefer to buy cat-back kits. It also seems that Supertrapp has fallen into a stereotype, ie: how many times have you seen Jim-Bob racing down the street in his 3 tone primered Camaro with the back end jacked way up in order to clear his ridiculously huge tires and a Supertrapp muffler coat hangered to the gas tank? How does this make this product appealing to the import community?

Anyway...

In a nut shell, they work, but you will probably get laughed at by people who don't understand the function of a Supertrapp. But who gives a crap, if it's what works best for you, use it!

Thumbs up Re: supertrapp muffler

I had Supertrapp mufflers on my 1985 vette in 1985. I still have my vette but I also have a 1999 Cougar and I slapped a new pair of Supertrapp Mufflers on it (converted the Cougar to Dual Exhaust). The reason I put these on is not so much that it "makes the car faster" or makes it "sound better" but more because it looks different, it works for me. I like my cars to look different from the rest. Originally I thought that the Supertrapp mufflers would make a big difference in sound but honestly the difference is minimal. The Supertrapp mufflers are high quality, high cost, they are in no way "junk". Once again, I can't vouch for the performance factor because unless you are on a race track with the throttle "wide open" what's the point. I'll try to add a picture.

Re: supertrapp muffler

Supertrapps flow well, but I really dislike their sound on cars. They will really make your 4-banger sound tin-can I'm afraid.

Also, don't expect any power gains other than one or two HP unless you have extensive mods other places.

Re: supertrapp muffler

Guys Guys, please hold the hostility...

Ace, easy bud, when you start saying things like 'ownage' you sound like a 15 year old. Lets try to keep this mature...

Thanks lxndr for the info. By the adjustable/replaceable disc's I'm imagining you can change the tone. I've never seen or been able to work with one of these, however I have had the opportunity to work on a Hooker adjustable muffler. In my opinion I just thought by adjusting the disc valve in the muffler, it just controlled the amplitude of the noise rather than tone/pitch.

Lumina, whether its a '69 Camaro or a '91 Civic, were all fans of trying to make things go fast. I am NOT a ricer, I prefer a deep rumbling V-8 any day, however I have seen some pretty fast imports.
