Was wondering if this is happening to anyone else? When I go to get out of my car after driving it I always have to hit the unlock button because my baby rides in the back, anyhoo whenever I push the lock/unlock button it shocks me. Even if I don't have to hit the unlock if and when I touch the car it will shock me. I look like a fool everytime I get out of my car trying not to touch the metal. Could there be a short in the wiring causing this? Anyone who can help please let me know. Oh yea I seem to be the only one who gets shocked none of the passengers and it is only when I get out of my car. I don't have this issue away from the car. Thanks

Before you start to slide out of your seat hold onto the metal part of the door by the window and then slide out. You build up a static charge as you slide or turn in the seat and then when you touch anything metal it will give you a shock. By holding the metal before you slide in your seat you don't build up the static charge that gives you the shock. This probably happens more in the winter when it is very dry.

You can also get yourself a 'static string', which is basically what it sounds like.
A little string that hangs off the bottom of the car dragging along the road as you go. It removes static electricity so you won't get shocked when you get out of the car. My best friend has a '97 Escort Wagon and she did that for the same problem you're having.
