Strange ticking sound when I accelerate

I recently had my bros '03 K1500 Z71 through some pretty rough stuff and now the engine makes a weird ticking sound when I step on the gas. I was on some pretty rough terrain and landed quite hard sometimes. Sounds like an exhaust leak to me, but any info. on how to fix/ figure out exactly what the heck this is would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
