GTO vs. GTO

Wow what a match up, two GTOs, both unique. One has a big 5.7L V8 and the other has a 3.0L Twin Turbo V6. One is RWD and the other AWD. One is Japanese and the other is American. Both have 6-Speeds and weigh relatively the same. The Japanese Mitsubishi GTO VR4 (known in the good ole USA as the 3000GT VR4) vs. the American Pontiac GTO. Which has the more style, performance, and tuning potential?

Re: GTO vs. GTO

mmm, this is a really really hard choice. i would probably go with the pontiac. for one reason, the power is always there with a n/a engine. another reason is i sligtly, just slightly, like the styling of the gto better. but this was one of the hardest choices i have had to make on af. good comparison.

edit: i just thought about the weight and i never realized the vr4 was fatter than my z. i always thought my z had a lot of weight. just thought i would say that.

I thought this was a poll of the old GTO vs the new one. I was coming in here all excited to vote for the old one, lol.

I vote for neither, not really interested in either one, so I'm not going to make a judgment on something I don't know about.

Re: GTO vs. GTO

VR4s are better looking and I believe its more like 13.5 or 13.4 on 1/4 mile. 3000gts kick ass!!!!

Re: GTO vs. GTO

One correction. One is Japanese and the other is Australian. The only thing American in it is the engine, but it's been tuned by some Germans.

As far as these two go, I've been in and drove the 3000, but not the Pontiac. From what I can tell you from the 3000, I felt very safe in that car, and although it was heavy, it still handled very good in every aspect. Speed wasn't an issue because it had plenty of it...plenty, but its still a sports car with a very limiting backseat. The GTO (Pontiac) from what I've seen is very spacious front and back when compared to the 3000. It really seems like an 'I either like the Mittsu or the Pontiac' considering they are cars in different classes. If I were to choose between the two I would honestly like to have the Pontiac considering the performance you get along with the amenities it allows for all the passengers and the driver along with it being a brand new car. I've seen and looked at the Pontiac's and really they aren't any noticable differences (as far as size) from your normal lineup of GT's and GTP's (Just a lot nicer to look at from the inside). Vote goes to the Pontiac.

I do like the GTO. Its a nice entry for Pontiac to bring to the states. But, as you can tell, my vote goes with the VR4.

While they are similar in performance, the VR4 is more feature rich and had these numbers and features a decade before the GTO got here.
