Motor Swaps

I know I am going to get flamed for this one.
I have a chance to get a '86 rx7, but the motor is close to being blown and since its an 86 its not turbo nor do i want to the do that conversion. I have a little experience with rotaries, but I'n to lazy to build one, and I just want to know it anyone has seen a 1.8 turbo motor out of a new 323 or anyother small turbo motor swaped in. I know v8s can be thrown in, but I need a car that can get desent gas mileage so it anyone knows of a place that makes a kit or a place i can get more info that would be great

Thanks

Re: Motor Swaps

just buy a car with a 4 cyl turbo motor already, the custom fab of the swap will probably be way expensive

Re: Motor Swaps

If you have enough money to custom swap in a 1.8 something turbo motor then you wouldn't have to worry about mileage. Even with the gas prices where they are at now.

Re: Motor Swaps

I'd get something else, and wait until you have enough money to get a good RX-7.

Any small engine trying to move that FC isn't going to get any better fuel mileage than a V8 OR good running stock N/A rotary.

My '86 Sport model got 30 mpg with the stock N/A 13B on the highway, and 25 mpg highway after the V8 swap. I really don't see any small piston engine getting better than that once you get enough hp to move the car well.

Re: Motor Swaps

my 91 NA gets 21-22 on the highway and 17-18 in town... but why not just buy an eclipse or something? you can find them cheap, they have turbo models, and they get good mileage
